    WINTER 2025 REFERRALS NEWSLETTER

    NEW REFERRALS:

    • Counseling Services of Long Island (not to be confused with Long Island Counseling Services) is a small group practice led by former LICC volunteer Penny Siegmann. They provide telehealth counseling for many different issues using several different therapy modalities.
    • Quinn, Andrew- MHC-LP is a former LICC volunteer who is now working as a private therapist as part of a small group practice. He sees clients in person at his Manhattan office near Madison Square Garden in addition to telehealth. There is currently no wait time for appointments, and he is listed under our “Short Wait-Mental Health” referrals. He also has weekend availability.

    CHANGES:

    • Spence-Chapin is an adoption agency that works closely with Children of Hope. They now serve clients in Arizona in addition to the NY Metropolitan Area who are looking to adopt.
    • A few of our referrals have rebranded and changed names, though most of their services are still the same. Please see the following referrals for more information:
      • Nassau/Suffolk Law Services Committee, Inc. is now Legal Services of Long Island.
      • Long Island Alzheimer’s Foundation (LIAF) is now Long Island Alzheimer’s & Dementia (LIAD) Center.
      • Bright Futures is now Yeled LI. They provide Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) for youth between the ages of 5-21 who are dealing with mental health challenges and/or medically fragile.
    • Samaritan Daytop Village, Inc. is an agency primarily serving individuals struggling with substance use disorders, with both inpatient and outpatient treatment options available. Additional locations in NYC have been added, and this referral has been broken down into several separate referrals based on the different services offered.
    • Oceanside Counseling Center recently closed and has been deactivated in Infobase.
    • RiseWell Community Services has a new program called the Suffolk County Childhood Trauma Service Center, providing individual, group, and family counseling to youth ages 7-18 who have experienced trauma. These services can be accessed in-home in addition to any of RiseWell’s offices around Suffolk. Please note that this program only serves Suffolk County residents.

    REMINDERS:

    • Due to misinformation on Google that we are unable to correct, we are still getting calls on Huntington Hotline from people who are looking for Huntington Bank. We have a general customer service number in Infobase that you can give to these callers, as Googling won’t help.
    • The Warm Bed Hotline is back for the winter months until approximately March 31st. Note that this is just a direct line to Nassau County DSS emergency housing and is not a different referral.

    OUT OF AREA REFERRALS:

    • 988 geo-routing is in effect and callers should now reach the local 988 center where they are physically located, just like how 911 works. However, not all phone carriers are on board yet and some callers may still be routed by area code, so there is a chance that we may get 988 calls from other areas. Keep in mind that we will still get out of area callers on Middle Earth and our other lines besides 988.
    • Like NYC, Arkansas and Indiana have disconnected their direct numbers and can now only be reached by calling 988. Some other states are also following suit and having their direct lines forward to 988. This means that clients may end up getting us again depending on how the call is routed, and a warm transfer may be needed.
    • If an out of area client needs referrals, an alternative to calling 988 is 2-1-1, which is a service that provides local information about referrals in the community. If clients are unable to reach 2-1-1 by phone, they can go to the website listed in our referral and access an online database on their own. Please note that 2-1-1 is not a crisis hotline but would be able to provide referrals after the client has been de-escalated.
    • The “Warm Line” referral category now includes some of the out of area hotline referrals that also have warmlines available.

Special thanks to our shift supervisor James McManus for presenting his in-service training on Working with the LGBTQ+ Community! Below are a few LGBTQ+ specific resources that were mentioned during the training and are good to keep in mind for calls from the LGBTQ+ population:

    • **PFY/Pride for Youth-Nassau/Suffolk
    • Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network (GLSEN)
    • Northwell Health Center for Transgender Care
    • American Civil Liberties Union of New York (ACLU)
    • Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund
    • National Center for Transgender Equality
