The Nassau MCU referral has been updated to better reflect the nature of their services and some additional restrictions have been added as well. They do not provide in-home counseling; they perform mental health safety checks to assess if a client requires hospitalization or if they are safe to stay out in the community. If the client needs to be hospitalized, MCU will work with 911 to arrange transportation. If they are not deemed a threat to themselves or others and don’t need to go to the hospital, MCU will provide some referrals for clients to follow up with.
We have also decided that we will no longer offer (Nassau) MCU as a referral to clients that have accepted a follow-up call from LICC or to Known Callers who are reaching out about themselves. If someone needs to speak to a counselor in person, please refer to the “Walk-In-Mental Health” referral category. Remember that we also have “Short Wait-Mental Health” referrals that can be cross referenced with the “Telehealth/Virtual” category if they need ongoing counseling and prefer to do so from the comfort of their home.
Please read through the entire referral description on your next shift to ensure that you have a full understanding of what MCU can do and any new restrictions. Feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] if you have any questions about the Nassau County Mobile Crisis Unit.
Thanks,
Frank
