I want to start by thanking Christine and Nimra for their in-service training on Chronic Suicidality and Levels of Care Within the Mental Health System this past June! It was very helpful to get a better sense of the various types of treatment available so we can give out the most appropriate referral information depending on our clients’ needs.
Please see below for more information about the categories we have and some of the referrals that can be given out for each of them, as well as some of the new referrals that we’ve added.
And don’t forget that you can now also search for referrals using keywords! The keyword search will show you all results that have that word within the description. Please see the online message book for more information about the different ways that this new feature can help with finding referrals.
REFERRAL CATEGORIES:
We’ve added a few new categories and the Intensive Outpatient/Partial Hospitalization categories have been separated to make it easier to find appropriate referrals for each. Please note that it will take some time to expand on the new categories, and the results you will find may be more limited at this time while we look to add more referrals.
- Equine-Assisted Therapy (*NEW*)
- Homicide/Homicidal Ideation (*NEW*)
- Contains referrals for legal assistance and obtaining orders of protection (cross-referenced with the Order of Protection category), along with several domestic/intimate partner violence agencies.
- Peer Support (*NEW*)
- Contains referrals like support groups, peer-to-peer warmlines, and other agencies that offer programs where people can get support from others who have been through similar experiences.
Levels of Treatment Categories:
- Level One – Outpatient: Mental Illness-Outpatient
- Level Two – Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOP): Intensive Outpatient
- Level Three – Partial Hospitalization / “Day Treatment”: Partial Hospitalization
- Level Four – Residential Treatment Center: Housing-Mentally Ill
- Level Five – Inpatient Hospitalization: Mental Illness-Inpatient
NEW REFERRALS:
- Fagan, Susan – LCSW: she is new to our database, but has been in private practice for over 20 years utilizing CBT. She has extensive experience working with clients who were formerly incarcerated and helps people who are dealing with anxiety, depression, substance abuse, grief/loss, and relationship issues. Note that she does not provide telehealth services.
- Aguilar, Alexandra-LCSW: a new private therapist who is currently only providing services via telehealth. She is licensed to work with clients anywhere in NY state so keep her in mind for New Yorkers calling from outside our immediate area. She is hoping to open an office in Queens as her practice takes off. She specializes in trauma, PTSD, anxiety, OCD, and depression, offering both CBT and EMDR.
- Pal-O-Mine: provides Equine-Assisted Therapy where clients can interact with the horses, but do not actually ride them. Licensed therapists utilize this form of therapy to track patterns within the client and to make observations on how the client interacts with the horses. This can be especially useful for clients struggling with PTSD, Depression, Anxiety, Emotional Regulation, Grief, and any other condition where the client has plateaued in traditional therapy. Sessions are coupled with more traditional therapies, such as CBT, DBT and Solution-Focused.
- *Homicide Information*: this is not an actual referral, but we have added some information to reference other referrals and categories to search if you find yourself on a homicide-related call. It also contains information on the New York SAFE Act that details the requirements of mental health professionals when it comes to reporting clients that they deem a risk to engage in homicidal behaviors. The New York SAFE Act has also been added as its own referral with a link for mental health providers to fill out a report on their homicidal client.
UPDATES & FYIs:
- Victory Recovery Partners: an OASAS-certified substance abuse outpatient recovery center treating patients ages 13 and older for substance abuse and-co-occurring disorders. They now also offer Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) at their Farmingville location. You can now find this referral in the Depression-Treatment Resistant and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) categories, in addition to the many substance abuse subcategories that it already had.
- Open Path Collective: a nationwide referral network of mental health professionals providing in-office and online mental health care at a steeply reduced rate. Clients pay a one-time lifetime membership fee to be connected with therapists in their extensive network. In partnership with licensed mental health clinicians in private practice throughout the 50 states and Canada, Open Path provides middle and lower-income level clients with access to affordable mental health care. Clients can use their website to find a therapist in their area and can filter their search by specialties, therapist race/ethnicity, treatment modalities, and more. You can find this referral by searching in the Counseling, Low-Cost, and Out of Area Referrals categories.
