Hello Counselors,
While on shift, please take a look at the suicide section of the counselor manual. I made some small updates. You will notice it is much easier to read now!
In addition, I decided to take out the ASIST sub-section, as many new counselors were not familiar with that method of suicide intervention.
We also added a new subsection called “Protocol for Involuntary Interventions”. Administrative staff met and deliberated about a new change regarding how we handle involuntary interventions. The new way of thinking in the field of suicidology is that we should collaborate with a caller if we plan to call 911 to intervene. Please see the sub-section for more information on this.
Finally, I added a graphic which explains a theory of suicide that I currently teach in the CIT classes. If you have questions, please let me know.
