    For ALL Counselors and CITs:

We are excited to let you know that we have added a “location feature” to InfoBase in response to counselors expressing frustration with not being familiar enough with Long Island to know the most convenient referrals to give to clients based on where they live.

You will now notice that when you’re searching for referrals – whether by Agency, Category, Location, or Keywords – a map will appear at the bottom of the search results with pins for each referral’s location so you can see where the agencies are and how close they are to the caller’s town. Since the map is at the bottom of the results screen, if your search yields many results, you will have to scroll down to the bottom of the screen to see the map. It will not tell you exactly how far away it is but is still helpful in gauging distance. While searching the map, you can click on the pin and then click “Full Profile” to open the description for that referral.

Please note that this map reflects the addresses on file for each referral, and some referrals with an undisclosed address, such as Nassau Haven, will not show up on the map. Additionally, some referrals only provide certain services at specific locations, so be sure to thoroughly read through the referral’s description before providing it based on location.

Keep in mind that this new feature is an ENHANCEMENT to Infobase. You still need to use the search keys to pull up appropriate referrals. This is just a visual to help you with location once that search is complete. If you have been fine searching for referrals and don’t feel you need to use this feature, then you don’t have to use it. It is simply a tool for those who have asked for it. Please try it out when you have some down time to familiarize yourself with it.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or experience issues with this new feature.

    -Frank
