I have added a new referral to the referrals database related to bias incident reporting. This referral has been in existence since December 2022, however, it is being publicized more now by the Governor’s office. It is new to our database.
Essentially, if someone would like to report a bias incident or hate crime, but only wants further resources, such as trauma-informed counseling, restorative justice, or de-escalation within their community, they can contact the New York State Hate and Bias Prevention Unit. The number is 1-844-NO-2-HATE. They can also report the incident on the website, which is listed within the referral.
This is not a number to call for emergency services, nor is it a law enforcement referral. This is a referral to report hate crimes/bias incidents in order to get further emotional or community support with it. You can find it under “New York State Hate and Bias Prevention Unit” under “Agency”.
