Good Morning Counselors,
This is important information to know about while you are on shift for the week of 11/27. We have learned that the Long Beach community has been impacted by the death of one of its recent graduates. A young man who graduated from Long Beach High School has died by suicide before Thanksgiving. He has a sister in the 10th grade at Long Beach High School. The superintendent sent a letter to families and gave them the Middle Earth number in case they need support at this time. We may see an uptick in calls from families, friends and professionals in the Long Beach community.
Please take some time on shift to refamiliarize yourself with bereavement referrals, and you can also refresh your knowledge about trauma, by selecting those topics in the counselor manual. In addition, the LICC website was also provided to students. We may see an uptick in Chat Counseling. Please review Dana’s manual on how to handle chat counseling calls. We do not want to miss any chats that may be coming in, particularly this week.
